GeoFocus® Introduces Next Generation Products

GeoFocus LLC, will unveil the TIMSTARTransportation Information Management Solutions for Transit and Rail, family of systems at the APTA Rail Conference in New York, June 11-14, 2006. These systems are next generation successors to TrainTrac® which is currently installed on some of the largest transit rail systems in the country.

TIMSTAR has taken the best features and functionalities from TIMSTAR and enhanced its capabilities to include the integration of a complete on-train information and communications system. The on-board GeoFocus Vehicle Information Management System (VIMS) is a network-based, state-of-the-art system that supports the use of a 100Base-T LAN intra-car trainline to deliver high-speed data to the major communication subsystems of a car.

VICImplementation of VIMS components is easy and straightforward. The primary control element is GeoFocus' Vehicle Information Controller (VIC). The communication capabilities of the VIC are designed to take advantage of a 100Base-T LAN to stream audio, video, control and communications data throughout the vehicle to control electronic subsystems such as:

  • Monitoring and Diagnostic Subsystem (MDS)
  • Wireless LAN (WLAN)
  • Voice and Data Radios
  • Public Address and other Audio Communication systems
  • Automated Announcements
  • GeoFocus Video Management System (GVMS)
  • Automatic Passenger Counting

CANThe VIC is complemented by GeoFocus' Controller Area Network (CAN) module. This module enhances and expands capabilities of the VIC by increasing the number of I/O ports that can be monitored and controlled. The CAN module converts discrete digital inputs into a serial data bus used by the VIC to monitor and control various on-board systems. The CAN module supports:

  • 24 digital inputs
  • 10 digital outputs
  • 8 relay outputs

These inputs/outputs are used by the VIC to monitor and control various on-board systems such as: cameras, passenger intercoms, video recorders, volume controls, alarms, PA system, speaker select, radio control, lights and flange lubrication.

The 100Base-T LAN network is provided using GeoFocus' Reliable Ultra-fast Network for Rail (RUNR ™)(patent pending). This advanced digital trainline network system supports high data rate broadband intra-car connections and enables inter-car data transfer rates of up to 100 Mbit per second across the entire consist. This technology uses the existing train coupling system equipped with a pair of special coupler pins.

The GeoFocus Video Management System (GVMS) has been heralded as a major industry breakthrough with enhanced high-resolution video and audio recording capabilities supported by an Ethernet compatible 100 Mbit per second advanced digital trainline network system.

GVMSUnlike the conventional low-resolution security camera systems commonly used on most rail vehicles and buses today, the GVMS is a "state of the art", rugged, solid-state mobile system developed to provide operators with the ability to monitor, record and instantly broadcast audio and high-resolution images from multiple cameras throughout multi-car systems.

Each GVMS recorder supports up to 16 cameras with numerous possible camera and frame rate combinations. Triggered events such as the activation of a passenger emergency intercom can be used to automatically switch camera recording rates and enable audio recording thereby significantly improving the ability to monitor and record security concerns in the event of an emergency.

Crews and security officers aboard moving rail vehicles can now view high-resolution camera monitors from centralized and secure locations, without the need to move from car to car. The sophisticated GeoFocus Video Management System also supports 802.11g Wireless LAN network capabilities for transmitting images from the vehicle to land-based receivers.

Recent events have shown the importance of being able to rapidly identify perpetrators through the presence of video systems using high quality images in post event analysis. In this time of heightened security worldwide, the GeoFocus Video Management System provides transit authorities nationwide with reliable, real-time communication solutions to ensure smooth, efficient day-to-day operations as well as enhance safety capabilities.
